William Buckley Biography

I am reviewing this for Booksneeze. I was initially excited to explore a biography. However, I found this book very difficult to read. Admittedly, my knowledge of history is not the best. This book seems like it would be more palatable for those who have strong historical/political knowledge. I was disappointed. Additionally, I did not glean from the text an appreciation for the influence of Mr. Buckley’s faith. I also could not appreciate the person of Bill Buckley. The content focused mostly on narration of events and less on the spiritual “why.” However, I did appreciate Mr. Buckley’s prediction of the degradation of society. I would not likely recommend this book except to those with familiarity of Mr. Buckley prior to reading the book.

What in the World

What in the World is Going On? 10 Prophetic clues You Cannot Afford to Ignore by David Jeremiah. I am reviewing this book that I received from Booksneeze. This book sets out to connect current events with prophecies in the Bible. The main purpose is to draw you to Jesus and set urgency in your heart to come to Jesus. This might get lost in all of the geopolitical narrations throughout the book. Even though it seems hard to deny the facts and atmosphere of a one world nation, this should not cause someone to abandon life. In fact, the author’s hope seems to be the opposite – that you will re-prioritize your life around the one true God.
The book started slow but took off after a chapter or two for me. It certainly did challenge me to be alert and discerning. The temptation would be to panic. But, early on the author states that these events should serve to further substantiate the verity of the Bible to life today. This brings us hope in the midst of a decaying humanity.
I would recommend this book to others with the caveat that one should not gloss over the subtle statements the author makes about putting these events in context.

PS - I guess I feel that the book draws more attention to the signs rather than the One who gives us the signs.

Boy Who Changed the World

The Boy Who Changed the World is quick and easy read. One that shows that everything one does, something happens. Full of wonder and surprise, the book delivers an encouraging message to youngsters to dream big and make wise choices. After all, you might be the next Boy who changes the world! Well done.

I reviewed this book for Booksneeze and receive a complimentary ebook copy.

Butterfly Effect

I reviewed this book for Booksneeze. What a fantastic and encouraging little book! It starts with one dramatic tale that leads to a humbling and patriotic appreciation for one man. Then, the story unfolds the significant historical ties to one person after another in demonstration of the “Butterfly Effect”. This book was a quick read that unfolded in a dramatic and engaging way. I thoroughly enjoyed it and hope that one day I might come to appreciate the potential impact that my everyday choices make on humanity.

Same Kind of Different as Me

I had the opportunity to review Same Kind of Different as Me for Booksneeze.
Wow! This book tells the story of two men -- connected by a Christian woman -- destined to develop a divine friendship despite completely contrary socioeconomic backgrounds. At first, the book moved rather slowly. However, after three chapters the pace picked up and I found the book much easier to read. In fact, I couldn’t put the book down. God’s sovereignty is blatantly behind every twist and corner turned in the lives of Denver, Ron, and Debbie. I was certainly challenged to look at my life and what I trust God for. I also was encouraged by the boldness and faith of the main characters. I enjoy reading about God’s power to redeem lives. I am grateful that these men decided to share their lives and God’s work in them and through them. I would highly recommend this book.

Venom and Song

Venom and Song by Wayne Batson and Christopher Hopper
This is my first Booksneeze review. I had the opportunity to read this epic tale of seven teenagers who are destined for greatness in another realm. It was an adventurous mix of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and Lord of the Rings. At first, I felt lost because I had not read the first book in the series. However, I very quickly gained familiarity with the characters. The book moved very quickly and had few slow moments. For parents, I would say that this book is for older teens because of a few graphic scenes of violence at the very beginning and end of the book. If you would not let your kids watch Lord of the Rings extended editions and all the battle scenes, you should probably screen this book first. It was enjoyable to me to follow the characters growth through trial after trial. Uniting and depending on a higher power was the main message I got from the story. The strength to make wise choices as a team was another theme that I felt ran through the book. I would recommend this book to others and older teens. If you enjoyed the Lord of the Ring series or the Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe series, I think you would like this series.
